Local Garden Club Spreads Holiday Cheer to Families in South Walton
The charter of the Green Thumb Garden Club (GTGC) is to give back to the community of Walton County. In keeping with their charter, the generous members of the GTGC sponsored two local families in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity for the 2020 holiday season.
Both families, a single mom and daughter and parents with two children, received donations for the kitchen and home, Christmas gifts for their children and gift cards to help with expenses into the new year.
Special thanks to GTGC members, Janet Woerner and Barb Landwehr, who facilitated the coordination of the Habitat families and to GTGC past president, Betty White, for allowing her home to be the collection point for the donations. While wearing masks and following social distance guidelines, members dropped of their donations and were able to enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and a beverage. GTGC elves, Robbie Carroll and Judy Zito, collected and delivered the donations.
The Green Thumb Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and a member of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and the National Garden Club Deep South Region. GTGC meetings are the third Wednesday of each month, September through May. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, virtual meetings will be held until further notice.
